1880 ORNATE SOLID SILVER VICTORIAN SERVING SPOONS OVER 100g EACH London 1880
These spoons are huge for serving spoons & given the size, weight & incredible patternation, they must have belonged to a very rich household indeed.
The spoons are fully hallmarked for London 1880 & made by Charles Eley.
They are just over 9.5" long - the bowl of the spoon is just under 2.5" wide.
One spoon weighs 108.1 grams - the other 110.8 grams.
I've seen far longer basting spoons weigh less than one of these.
There is very little flex & they feel strong. I'm sure they've been dropped once or twice in their 140 years but, are of such a great gauge of silver that this has not mattered a jot - no dints or dents anywhere - seen or felt.
We usually only see these more ornate styles on berry spoons but they are not decorated as such &, in today's market, I think they are more desirable as just service flatware. Although made in the Victorian era, these have a Regency style - just look at those terminals, the handles, the bowls! There is barely a millimeter of the front that escapes decoration. The terminals have round, vacant cartouches that don't appear to have ever been monogrammed.
These are superb, ornate pieces of English silver flatware at its best & will add grace to any setting.
All our vintage and antique are in used condition and may show it.
They will not however have major flaws that we will not mention.
They may need further polishing to bring out their beauty.
